Work area for signs and small crafts

Running a job without a laptop beside it

Safety belongs in the setup

Wear certified impact safety glasses during routing passes. Use active dust collection, and when carving dense hardwoods, use appropriate respiratory protection such as an N95 or P100 respirator where suitable for the exposure and workshop setup. Dust collection does not replace eye protection, and respiratory protection does not make poor extraction acceptable.

Do not hold a workpiece by hand near a moving cutter. Make a conservative test cut before committing to a larger project, and stop the machine if the workpiece shifts, the cutter behaves unexpectedly, or the machine begins to bind.

A desktop CNC is suitable for the materials and operations supported by its design and tooling. It should not be treated as a machine for continuous heavy milling of hardened steel plates. Material, cutter, rigidity, workholding, and cutting conditions determine what a specific setup can handle.

TTC3018 Pro or TTC450 Pro?

The right choice depends mainly on the size and density of the work rather than on the word “beginner.”

The TTC3018 Pro is the more compact direction for lightweight engraving, small softwood projects, and users who want a smaller desktop footprint. It is less suitable when the project regularly calls for a larger carving area or more room for dense hardwood work.

The TTC450 Pro is the stronger fit when pre-assembly, a 460 × 460 mm work area, lead-screw motion hardware, and offline control are central to the buying decision. Its larger platform still does not make it an industrial router, and the final result remains dependent on proper tooling, workholding, setup, and material selection.

For a first home workshop CNC, spending more on a pre-assembled and more capable platform can be reasonable when it removes setup complexity that would otherwise prevent the machine from being used. The wrong choice is a machine whose bed, motion system, software workflow, or workspace does not match the projects you intend to make.

A practical first-project decision
